Optimizing DirectX 12 / Vulkan GPU Rendering & Low-RAM Mode on Windows 10/11 Laptops

Quick fixes and performance tuning for integrated Intel UHD / Iris Xe and AMD Radeon laptop GPUs, Low-Spec mode in ArteCraft.exe, and resetting local workspace preferences.

02Step-by-Step Walkthrough

STEP 01

1. Selecting DirectX 12, Vulkan, or CPU Fallback on Older Windows Laptops

All 13 Craft apps render via wgpu on Windows 10/11 (DirectX 12 by default, with Vulkan and OpenGL/CPU fallbacks). On older integrated GPUs, force a specific backend in Windows Command Prompt:

set WGPU_BACKEND=dx12
photocraft.exe

REM Software/GL fallback for legacy drivers:
set WGPU_BACKEND=gl

STEP 02

2. Enabling Low-Spec Mode for 4 GB – 8 GB RAM Windows Laptops

Open ArteCraft.exe → Settings and toggle Low-Spec Mode to disable backdrop blur animations and cap concurrent background unpacking threads on thin notebooks.

STEP 03

3. Resetting Local Preferences Without Losing Documents

If an alpha update changes panel layout schemas, clear %APPDATA%\PhotoCraft (your project files and portable apps inside %LOCALAPPDATA%\ArteCraft\Apps remain completely untouched).
